Power Tips To Improve Your Golf Swing

Monday Feb 23, 2009

Success at playing golf largely revolves around your golf skills and the most important aspect is your golf swing. The ability to execute a powerful and balanced golf swing is the key to mastering golf. Here are some proven power tips to improve your golf swing.

Power Tip 1
A great golf swing is more than just swinging with your arms. Swing your golf club behind your back while you turn it to your target. It is like taking your club back as you hinge your arm at your shoulder. You could also practice the drill known as no arms.

Power Tip 2
You should not forget to cock your wrists. This might be difficult at first, but it will be natural to you with enough practice and will produce tremendous results.

Power Tip 3
Your left arm should turn clockwise slightly when you start the back swing. It is not really something that you actually should remember. It naturally happens if you would just allow it. This just means that you should not resist this movement that is just natural. You might not notice it, but you might have been resisting this movement because this causes the head of your golf club to go open slightly when you swing it. Just allow it to happen naturally.

Power Tip 4
Always plant your feet firmly on the ground. This technique is also commonly used in baseball. It involves letting your foot heel in front to come above the ground when you swing your golf club back. Some people think that by doing this so, their back swing feels bigger.

It is something that seems lifting the front heel can easily make the body coil and for the tension to build that much harder. Letting the foot roll freely to the inside is fine. However, one should keep that foot on the ground to make golf back swing well-anchored.

Power Tip 5
Work on your bottom golf down swing. Assuming that you accomplish all the drills correctly, from the golf stance, the golf grip you have, and your golf back swing. But you can still ruin everything if you begin the golf swing that you have with the shoulders. You might want to use a swing trigger to begin the golf down swing that you have with the lower part of your body.

Power Tip 6
Another tip on your golf down swing. You should turn the belt buckle to your target. Try turning your hips as powerful and fast as possible when you do your golf down swing, it works.

Understanding The Biomechanics Of A Golf Swing

Monday Feb 23, 2009

How well you play golf comes down to one major factor: the biomechanics of the golf swing. In other words, it’s what is happening with your body while you’re swinging the golf club.

Though the exact biomechanics are difficult to understand, it’s helpful to know at least a little bit about what goes on during a golf swing.

Preparing to swing a golf club is just as important as actually swinging the club. You need to make sure you have the proper grip and the proper stance.

Before addressing the golf ball, make sure you have a proper grip on the club. Be sure both your top hand and your bottom hand are aligned correctly.

Then when you begin to address the golf ball, you need to make sure that your posture and stance are correct. In addition, you also need to make sure you align your body with the target so the ball flies in the direction you want it to go.

When you stand to hit the ball, your feet should be about shoulder length apart. Your weight should be distributed evenly on both feet, and it should be placed on the middle of each foot. Your shoulders should move forward over your toes and your hips should move back over your heels.

Now you have the club in your hands and your body positioned to hit the ball. The actual biomechanics of a golf swing you need to concentrate on are the backswing, downswing, impact, follow through, and finish.

The backswing is when you bring the club back in preparation to swing it forward and hit the ball. During the back swing you should be rotating your shoulders, spine, hips, and knees backward. The backswing should be smooth and slow.

When the backswing is complete then it’s time for the downswing to begin. This is sometimes referred to as the transition.

During the downswing, all the energy and motion that was going backward now must go forward. You want to create torque in your lower body and then transfer it into your upper body and then into the golf club. The energy from the club will then be transferred into the ball at the point of impact.

At the point of impact you want to swing through the ball and continue your swing. The impact is so brief that it can’t even be seen with the naked eye.

After impact you have the follow through phase of the swing. This is when all the movement you just created has to slow down and eventually stop. Allow yourself to continue with the swing on an even plane with the backswing and downswing. When the follow through is complete, that is what is known as the finish.

The golf swing should be completed with the golf club behind you and the head of the golf club usually pointing toward the ground.

The biomechanics of a golf swing are very difficult to understand. Many people don’t realize exactly what is happening when they hit a golf ball. To know just a little but about it will help you hit a better golf shot.

Surefire Tips To Improve Your Golf Swing

Monday Feb 23, 2009

A well executed golf back swing is not just dependent on the arms of the golfer but also on the golfer’s back as he turns away from the target. The golf swing is more of the motion of putting the golf club behind the golfer’s back than swinging it through the air. Here are some surefire tips to improve your golf swing and your game dramatically.

1. The move backswing
If you observe it closely, the golf back swing actually works from up to down. The takeaway back swing begins from the top as you make the movement on your arms and follows as you do that turn on your shoulders. The movement then goes straight down towards the legs and the hips.

The golf back swing is primarily about how the body is being coiled upwards thus creating the needed tension in the muscles as well as torque to be able to let out that all powerful downswing. Particularly, that swing is created anywhere in between the golfer turning his or her upper body as well as shoulders and the turning, to a lesser degree, the lower body and the hips.

2. Relax Your Body
A golf swing will never be executed well if it is done in a hurried manner. If a back swing is in any way done in a hurry, the downswing does not become fast and will actually produce the opposite result.

The backswing speed should be in a tempo that is steady and should neither be fast nor slow. Although some golfers have that tendency to go way faster than the regular, whenever you catch yourself doing this, you should try to slow it down a bit.

3. The move downswing
When you reach the downswing, all you really need to do is to just let it go. Let the downswing happen naturally. However, this only applies if ever you were able to start with a golf stance, backswing and grip that is correct.

The downswing must be the natural result of all that went before it. If you were able to do your backswing in the correct manner, your body will unwind on itself thus releasing the club and striking the ball that will therefore result in a follow through that is balanced.

4. The follow-through move
A follow-through should be best seen as the feather in your cap move. The legs must be adequately straight and the hips have to form a straight line together with the legs.

This final follow-through move will serve as the gauge of the whole golf swing you have just done. You know that you were able to execute a good golf swing that is almost perfect if in the end you have a position that looks like the letter C only in reverse.

Golf Tips for Driving Longer

Monday Feb 23, 2009

You are a frustrated golfer. You cannot seem to get a long drive on your shot. You have consulted numerous golfing magazines, sports shop pros, and even the book Golfing for Dummies. As embarrassing as that was, it didn’t even work. In fact, nothing seems to work. What should you do?

Don’t fret. Improving your drive isn’t the most complicated thing on earth to achieve, although at times it may feel that way. There are basically four things that you can do to make yourself a better player in this area. Let’s take a closer look at what you need to do.

Change your stance:
It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that if you simply widen your golf stance, you will be more stable. This stability will give you the power you need to swing the club steadily and powerfully.

When you are at the tee box, make sure that you are properly aligned on it. Sometimes a confusing layout of a tee box can throw an even experienced golfer off. Make sure that you are always standing behind the ball and looking right down the fairway. This is by far the easiest way to avoid any stance confusion.

Use your toes to aim at the target:
That’s right. If you are left-handed, simply point your right toe right at the target. If you are right-handed, then vice versa is true. This will not only help your balance, but will force your body to take direct aim.

Focus… and then focus some more:
Take your mind off every little thought in your head that does not have to do with hitting this ball the right way. Concentration is absolutely necessary to drive your ball longer. One little uninvited though could throw off your whole game… and you don’t want that, do you?

Consider your form:
Do you hurry through your backswing? Or, do you take the club back as far as you possibly can when using a backswing? Which hand do you use more power in when hitting the ball? Do you keep your head still when swinging at the ball? If the things you are trying now aren’t working, then you need to tweak or change them, so that you can get something to work right for you. If it is your form that needs to be changed, try some different positions. See what works right for you.

In the case of keeping your head straight when hitting the ball, for example, this will help you to know where the ball is going to be when you hit it. If your head is not steady, your control over the ball is not going to be there.

And lastly, before you get out on the golf course, give yourself a little piece of advice: ‘You can do it.’ Not only can you drive your ball longer, but you can also have fun when doing so. The more you are relaxed when going to play the game of golf, the better it will turn out for you!

Whats the best driver to get for a fast golf swing?

Tuesday Feb 17, 2009

I swing my clubs pretty fast and i'm not sure what kinda driver would compliment my swing the best any ideas.

Simple..and no brainer. Call, or go by your local golf course, or maybe a golf shop, and find out if they have a golf professional on staff that does club fitting. Fast is fast…but how fast?? They are equipped usually to check a lot of things on how to find the best club, proper shaft, etc. to fit your game. And if there is a cost, it is nominal. But, the benefits for you are many. And, believe me…I have, as well as many other golfers, have bought what we thought was the right club…and wasn't. A very expensive lesson learned!!!! With all the technology today in golf and golf clubs, there is an awful lot to know. Your golf professional has the answers. Good luck. And…good golfing. It is a great game.

Taking a divot with swing in golf?

Tuesday Feb 17, 2009

Does anyone have any tips or suggestions to get a perfect hit and take a divot with the ball when I swing? I have tried and tried but I can’t get it right.

Don’t you think that an investment in a few basic lessons might help develop a repeatable golf swing? There is no rule that says a great golf shot requires a divot.

no golf question what? ok how about this one doesn't Tiger need to master the secret move of golf?

Tuesday Feb 17, 2009

Does anyone think that tiger woods even in his prime had an inadequate move through the hitting zone? his firing into his left leg was unnatural even though it created extra power. When i look at a player like Padraig harrington i think wow money his move is a slight lateral slide that promotes full balanced finish with ease. To much sliding can be bad but due to the fact that the golf Swing is unnatural the human body must do what it needs to due to serve the purpose any comments?

As Tiger has said….There is no one way to play golf…..There are many ways to play …just as there are many ways to swing a club. you have to master your way. Harrington has a good swing of that there is no doubt….but there are many good swings out there….the ultimate secret is mastery of your particular swing to achieve the results you want.

Master Golf Right Away - Quick Tips for Improving Your Golf Swing

Master Golf Right Away - Quick Tips For Improving Your Golf Swing

Improving your golf swing would really be a very good attempt to play golf perfectly. The intention would itself keep you motivated and you can become a master in golf by simply abiding to the tips that are furnished below. Once you start following them, you would see the difference for yourself. Other than this, you need not worry about any other factor for improving your golf swing.Visit to : http://golfclub-review.blogspot.com

Positioning yourself is the most tricky part in golf and you should be certainly be able to do this as a measure to improving your golf swing. All that you have to do is to imagine a line between the flag you are targeting and the ball. You should now position yourself parallel to this imaginary line. This is the basics of golf and would greatly help in improving the golf swing.
Holding the golf club correctly is essential. Improving the golf swing would become very simple and easy if one of these three different methods is followed. The Vardon or Overlapping Grip, Interlocking Grip and the Baseball Grip are the three most commonly used methods.
Baseball grip method best suits young children and elders who have small hands. The next method for improving your golf swing is Vardon or Overlapping method in which the smallest finger in the right hand is kept between the index and middle finger in the left hand. In the next method, which is called as the Interlocking method in golf, the index finger of the left hand and the little finger on the right hand are locked together producing a grip.Visit to : http://golfclub-review.blogspot.com

The next technique which helps in improving the golf swing is the grip of the left hand. The club should be held in the left hand with the shaft lying across the top of the fingers. The thumb can as well be placed straight across the top of the fingers in order to have a natural grip. One more point which should be noted is that the thumb of the right hand should be pointing to the right shoulder.
Maintaining a decent distance between the two legs is the next important step used for improving your golf swing. This distance between the legs should be equal to the length of the shoulder. Essential parts of the body like the shoulder, knee, hip and the foot should all be parallel. It is also essential in golf that the upper portion of the body should lean slightly. But the knees can be relaxed.
Conscientiously focus on proper body positioning when practicing your swing. Keep your shoulders and upper body together while the only your hand is turned as your body is rotating through the swing. Do this and improvement will surely come.

The most essential point to be remembered in golf for improving your golf swing is that your shoulder and body’s upper part should never move. Movement in these areas would reduce the body’s balance and result in a bad shot. The uniqueness of golf is that just the arm has to be rotated and the rest of the body has just to rotate like a swing in the direction the arm moves. If keen attention is paid to these factors, no one can stop you from improving your golf swing. http://golfclub-review.blogspot.com

Concerned about downswing timing in golf do i swing harder with my arms or slow down my body?

Tuesday Feb 10, 2009

I really struggle firing through way to early. Sometimes I hit the ground before the ball and lose like 100 yards on tee shots.
Its very hard for me to slow down my body i have tried this and lose distance. I feel I do fire through to hard with my body but i like to what is a good drill to master weight transfer into my front foot. Or whats a good drill I can use to time my downswing for optimal power and solid contact? My theory is its in the hands becuase they are the only thing touching the club do i need to speed up my hands help please?

Think about it –

Your theory on the hands is exactly opposite of what you should be doing.

Good swings are controlled by the large muscles in your body, your fingers, hands, and arms are all integral, but you should not try to manipulate them during the swing, doing so will lead to inconsistent results (probably similar to what you’ve been experiencing)

What you should concentrate on is a solid one piece takeaway….try to keep the triangle formed by the grip of the club and your shoulders intact for as long as possible, at least until the club is parallel with the ground (horizontally). Do this a few times and check to make sure the toe of the club is pointing to the sky, if it is, then you’re doing it correctly.

From that position simply turn your left shoulder until it points at the ball, then begin your downswing by ‘sitting’ down into the shot with your lower body. The legs should initiate the swing.

If you get Harvey Penick’s Little Red Book, he describes this as the “magic move”, as you begin the downswing your weight shifts to your left heel and your right elbow comes back into your body. As you hit the ball and enter your follow through your weight will have totally shifted and you’ll have 85 to 90% of your weight on your left foot as you complete the swing.

It takes practice and determination to perfect this move, I would encourage you to get The Little Red book…..great easy to understand info in there.

Good Luck!

If you Want to Improve your Golf Game Then you Must Understand the Steps of the Golf Swing

Monday Feb 9, 2009

Almost any golfer who has a passion for the sport wishes to improve their game and there are many ways to do such a thing. One way is to hire a golf trainer and many a professional golfer has done just this but many amateur golfers may not have the resources or time to use this technique. One way to improve your golf game is to learn how to perfect your long drive swing and in order to do this, it is necessary to understand the mechanics of the golf swing. A good golf swing can be broken down into the backswing, the downswing, the connection with the ball, and above all else, understanding the fact that there is no perfect swing that works for everybody. This article will explore the different aspects of the golf swing and what methods you can employ to improve yours.

The backswing is obviously the first step in starting a good golf swing and because it is the step that many golfers fail at, the entire swing is doomed to failure. Many golfers dont understand that a good backswing starts with the arms and not the hands and that you want to draw back in a one piece motion. Assuming that you are right handed, you want your left shoulder and hips to turn which transfers your weight to the right side as you bring the club back. A golfers hands should begin to set at waist level and as the club continues to climb, the shoulder should continue to turn as you reach the top of the swing. It is important not to over swing at the top as this will create negative club speed and inconsistent swings.

Once you have mastered the backswing, it is time to learn how to follow through with the downswing where you return the club head to the ball with a high but controllable speed. If your downswing it too hard then you will likely have a bad drive so it is important that you dont try to rely on pure force to drive the ball. Many inexperienced golfers will try to lead the downswing with the left side causing the club head to slide ahead of the ball and causing a weak, slicing shot. A more effective method is to pull with your left arm at the top which creates a more consistent swing as all of your body parts are moving together.

Even after mastering the backswing and downswing, many golfers tend to fail at the completion, trying to hit the ball low and to the left which makes it difficult to get the ball airborne. In golf, it is important that when connecting you should hit the ball high and not to the left and the club face should stay square for several inches past impact to maintain proper flight of the ball. In addition to keeping the club face square, you must also make sure that the weight you transferred to the right side in the backswing switches back to the left side at impact. If you have a good finish, your right knee will be facing the target, your right foot will be up so all spikes are visible, and your hands will be close to your left ear.

The perfect golf swing that works for every golfer is a myth because the true perfect golf swing is a very personal thing. While the techniques described above are important, it is also important that you find the correct swing that works for you. If you watch professional golfers on TV you will notice that while most have very differing swings, they all have one thing in common which is consistency where their swing is utterly identical each time with the same results in direction and distance. Consistency is indeed the key and after you learn what works for you, you must practice to repeat the same swing over and over again.

Guaranteed Basic Golf Swing Tips To Improve Your Game!

Monday Feb 9, 2009

I can remember the first time I ventured out onto a golf course and tried to hit the cover off the ball on the first tee. My memory of that inauspicious debut was a skewed shot which disappeared into the bushes to the right and became just another lost ball statistic. My basic golf swing technique for starters was crappy but more importantly, I didn’t really understand the mechanics of the golf swing.

The end result of that very first game was a large triple figure score and about fifteen golf balls which never saw the light of day again. Oh, I can laugh about it now but if you want to know what epitomised embarrassment I’m here to tell you it was yours truly on that fateful day.

Can you as a novice draw similar comparisons? Well, if you haven’t mastered the basic golf swing yet and you plan on improving your driving, chipping and putting then read the rest of this article.

Physics And The Basic Golf Swing

Before you can even think about using brute strength in you swing you need to understand golf isn’t really a game about power. It’s more timing and that’s why it’s a good idea to examine your clubs closely. Notice how each one is designed just a little differently than the other. The three iron has a more flatter blade than the nine iron. The three iron is designed for hitting the ball longer distances while the nine iron is designed for more up and under.

Getting into the habit of using the appropriate club for the appropriate play will get you forming good basic golf swing habits. It’s a similar story with the driving woods. In most cases, you’ll have a selection to choose from. I have four and my favorite is the fairway wood. It’s designed to be used as the follow up to the tee shot on a long range hole and used correctly, is very effective in getting a clean, crisp shot away without forcing the shot with unnecessary power.

Golf Exercise

Believe it or not, one of the keys to maintaining a good basic golf swing is fitness, or being golf fit if you like. Identifying your golfing muscles is important and if you are not sure, ask an experienced golfer. No, it doesn’t mean you need to spend five days in a gym building up to Mr. Universe levels. Simple golf stretch exercises; some involving use of a club and others just basic body stretches. You’ll be surprised how effective muscle conditioning will help your basic golf swing movement.

Enlisting the services of a short term coach is a great way to learn the basic skills. It’s like building a house; get the foundation right and you have something to build on. A coach will quickly pin point your problem areas and address them quickly. Ask at your favorite clubhouse the next time you’re there.

The basic golf swing in many ways is like a player’s “holy grail.” Once it’s mastered, you can then plan for bigger and better things, including the odd power drive off the tee!

Describe the perfect golf swing?

Tuesday Feb 3, 2009

OK, so my family reunion is in a week or two and we're going to play golf. I need some advice on how to improve my swing. What, in your mind are the key points to a perfect swing and how do you prepare for a game of golf.

The golf swing is basically a natural thing.

The first mistake alot of people make is thinking too much! You cannot concentrate on more than one swing thought.

Try setting up to the ball where you are not too close or reaching for the ball.

Take the club straight back behind the ball. As you turn your shoulders, your hips will follow.

Don't overswing! Take the club to almost parallel (meaning don't let the club become more than perpendicular to the ground).

Turn your hips back to the ball and your shoulders will follow.

Smooth follow through.
