i am on the highschool golf team and we played the other day against this team that could out drive all of us by at least a hundred yards. and they ended up woopin our buts. please help i need an idea to get more lag and power like th pros do so i can get more distance
For distance, you have to learn how to feel like you are hitting against a firm left side. What that means….If you had a hold of a friend by one arm and one leg and you were going to see how far you could toss them, you would swing them back and then forward but at a point, you would have to stop your bodies momentum so that you could sling your friend past you and release them to toss them forward.
In your swing, the front leg is your post. Your weight transfers to the front leg and the momentum of your swing builds up to that point and then your arms and hands release the club head into the back of the ball with maximum force and then everything fires on through with a good hip turn into a good follow through and finish. Get all that? It takes practice.
how do i get more power and speed in my golf swing?
Posted by admin | Under Power Golf Swing Monday May 25, 2009What are the most common power leaks in a good player's golf swing?
Posted by admin | Under Power Golf Swing Saturday May 16, 2009
hello marc
Maybe the biggest culprit that robs power is not getting a good shoulder turn.
Second to that I believe it is trying to steer the ball into the fairway rather then just swinging away.
Not finishing the follow through will cut length also.
This combination of things contributes to loss of distance in even the strongest of players games.

How do I explain energy in a golf swing? What is the correlation of power, mass and swing speed?
Posted by admin | Under Power Golf Swing Friday May 8, 2009
Speed=distance/time
force= acceleration *mass
power=(force*distance)/time
energy = power * time
In a golf swing:
mass=body+club head
speed= acceleration at point of contact:created by hip turn +wrist lag
Energy transfer to the ball has to do with all those combined, The better the contact w/ the ball the longer the contact time and the better the energy transfer.
Tempo is important for creating proper momentum at contact.
Power Tips To Improve Your Golf Swing
Posted by admin | Under Power Golf Swing Monday Feb 23, 2009
Success at playing golf largely revolves around your golf skills and the most important aspect is your golf swing. The ability to execute a powerful and balanced golf swing is the key to mastering golf. Here are some proven power tips to improve your golf swing.
Power Tip 1
A great golf swing is more than just swinging with your arms. Swing your golf club behind your back while you turn it to your target. It is like taking your club back as you hinge your arm at your shoulder. You could also practice the drill known as no arms.
Power Tip 2
You should not forget to cock your wrists. This might be difficult at first, but it will be natural to you with enough practice and will produce tremendous results.
Power Tip 3
Your left arm should turn clockwise slightly when you start the back swing. It is not really something that you actually should remember. It naturally happens if you would just allow it. This just means that you should not resist this movement that is just natural. You might not notice it, but you might have been resisting this movement because this causes the head of your golf club to go open slightly when you swing it. Just allow it to happen naturally.
Power Tip 4
Always plant your feet firmly on the ground. This technique is also commonly used in baseball. It involves letting your foot heel in front to come above the ground when you swing your golf club back. Some people think that by doing this so, their back swing feels bigger.
It is something that seems lifting the front heel can easily make the body coil and for the tension to build that much harder. Letting the foot roll freely to the inside is fine. However, one should keep that foot on the ground to make golf back swing well-anchored.
Power Tip 5
Work on your bottom golf down swing. Assuming that you accomplish all the drills correctly, from the golf stance, the golf grip you have, and your golf back swing. But you can still ruin everything if you begin the golf swing that you have with the shoulders. You might want to use a swing trigger to begin the golf down swing that you have with the lower part of your body.
Power Tip 6
Another tip on your golf down swing. You should turn the belt buckle to your target. Try turning your hips as powerful and fast as possible when you do your golf down swing, it works.

no golf question what? ok how about this one doesn't Tiger need to master the secret move of golf?
Posted by admin | Under Power Golf Swing Tuesday Feb 17, 2009Does anyone think that tiger woods even in his prime had an inadequate move through the hitting zone? his firing into his left leg was unnatural even though it created extra power. When i look at a player like Padraig harrington i think wow money his move is a slight lateral slide that promotes full balanced finish with ease. To much sliding can be bad but due to the fact that the golf Swing is unnatural the human body must do what it needs to due to serve the purpose any comments?
As Tiger has said….There is no one way to play golf…..There are many ways to play …just as there are many ways to swing a club. you have to master your way. Harrington has a good swing of that there is no doubt….but there are many good swings out there….the ultimate secret is mastery of your particular swing to achieve the results you want.
Concerned about downswing timing in golf do i swing harder with my arms or slow down my body?
Posted by admin | Under Power Golf Swing Tuesday Feb 10, 2009I really struggle firing through way to early. Sometimes I hit the ground before the ball and lose like 100 yards on tee shots.
Its very hard for me to slow down my body i have tried this and lose distance. I feel I do fire through to hard with my body but i like to what is a good drill to master weight transfer into my front foot. Or whats a good drill I can use to time my downswing for optimal power and solid contact? My theory is its in the hands becuase they are the only thing touching the club do i need to speed up my hands help please?
Think about it –
Your theory on the hands is exactly opposite of what you should be doing.
Good swings are controlled by the large muscles in your body, your fingers, hands, and arms are all integral, but you should not try to manipulate them during the swing, doing so will lead to inconsistent results (probably similar to what you’ve been experiencing)
What you should concentrate on is a solid one piece takeaway….try to keep the triangle formed by the grip of the club and your shoulders intact for as long as possible, at least until the club is parallel with the ground (horizontally). Do this a few times and check to make sure the toe of the club is pointing to the sky, if it is, then you’re doing it correctly.
From that position simply turn your left shoulder until it points at the ball, then begin your downswing by ‘sitting’ down into the shot with your lower body. The legs should initiate the swing.
If you get Harvey Penick’s Little Red Book, he describes this as the “magic moveâ€, as you begin the downswing your weight shifts to your left heel and your right elbow comes back into your body. As you hit the ball and enter your follow through your weight will have totally shifted and you’ll have 85 to 90% of your weight on your left foot as you complete the swing.
It takes practice and determination to perfect this move, I would encourage you to get The Little Red book…..great easy to understand info in there.
Good Luck!
Make a consistant golf swinging machine?
Posted by admin | Under Power Golf Swing Tuesday Jan 20, 2009I am testing golf balls for a science project and was wondering how i would be able to mount a golf club so that it would swing consistantly every time as well as generating enough power for the ball to get off the ground. I am thinking of using springs etc but i dont exactly know what to do. Any help is appreciated and best answers WILL be given
im testing how price affects the golf balls eg do more expensive ones go further
You need to know that your assertion is wrong. More expensive balls often don't go as far as less expensive balls. There are many aspects to golf besides distance. Factors such as ball spin, feel and workability are just as important as distance. An expensive ball may not go as far as a cheap ball, but will spin more, giving more control around the greens. It will also feel software and allow the golfer to control its flight more than a cheap ball.

Where exactly am I supposed to get distance from my golf swing?
Posted by admin | Under Power Golf Swing Sunday Nov 2, 2008I know that it’s not power from my arms. I know it has to do with swing speed. Where is the speed supposed to be coming from? I am 5′8″ 147 lbs. My friend is 5′10″ 120 lbs. and drives the ball 280 yards or so. I can’t get it passed 170. Please help. Where is the distance supposed to come from at the point of impact with the ball?
And I will be taking lessons soon, I just wanted to try to get this down pat. Thanks.
A lot of these guys are correct, but its not one things that gives distance!
Like one guy said about the "lag" (picture yourself standing in waist high water, on your downswing the bottom of your grip would break the water if you choke up) helps you generate club head speed (which someone else said this is what gives distance). Again, someone said the lower body gives you power (coiling), they are correct too. Also, hitting the center of the club face with it being square adds to distance.
Something no one mentioned, height can add club head speed. Some people probably will disagree, BUT, take a 10 foot rod and mount it on something that will spin it, but not in the middle. Say one end 4' and one 6', if there was a club head on each end the club head with the 6' pole would be traveling faster (mph) maybe not much but it could cause a few yards (from 270-275 yards for a couple inches). That is not shaft based but arm based.
Hope this helps.
Loss of power in the golf swing….??
Posted by admin | Under Power Golf Swing Monday Oct 27, 2008OK this is a complicated one. I am going to get back into playing a lot again this summer so I want to get my power back. I won my club championship 2 years ago, but have been significantly shorter with all my clubs for about 4 years now. My swing started to get too long and I've fixed that for the most part, but along with that it got too up right causing me to flip my hands through the ball, as opposed to rolling them through impact and keeping my hands ahead of the clubface. Thus I don't compress the ball like I used to and have lost about 10 yards on my irons and quite a bit off the driver. I hit a high ball, but I can play quite well with it, I just want my distance back. Any tips to get my swing more shallow and to compress that ball???
If you are going to "get back into playing a lot again this summer" I'll assume you haven't been playing as much recently, right? I'm thinking that just playing more will bring back some yardage.
You also mentioned that you won the "club championship 2 years ago" but you "have been significantly shorter with all my clubs for about 4 years now." Maybe being shorter is a good thing. Did you win any championships over four years ago when you were longer?
When playing golf we do some peculiar things. The main thing better players do is learn is how to score. Scoring comes from putting the ball in good positions to attack pins. However, players that hit it full bore on most shots have to contend with issues of poor accuracy. Even Tiger Woods has learned to back off a little.
I believe that once you start playing (read: practicing) more, then your crisp ball striking will come back. With it will come some (or all) of your lost yardage.
Now, concerning shallowing out your swing…
Ben Hogan states on page 79 of "Five Fundamentals…" the following: "HOWEVER, YOU ARE HEADING FOR DISASTER IF YOU THRUST YOUR ARMS UP ABOVE THE PLANE SO THAT THEY WOULD SHATTER THE PLANE OF GLASS. Poor golfers [I'm not saying you're a poor golfer...poor golfers don't win club championships] make this error at any and all stages of the backswing, but it occurs most commonly when they are nearing the top of the backswing. Then, when their hands are about shoulder high, they suddenly lift their arms almost vertically towards the sky–crash goes the glass… and their shot. They conclude the backswing on an entirely different and far more upright plane, …."
When you start trying to get a little of that lost yardage back, you probably try to get a little more backswing. In doing so I would wagger a small bet that you are lifting your hands towards the end of your backswing instead of continuing AROUND in your backswing. Doing so will cause several bad things to happen. The first thing to go will be accuracy. If you played a slight draw before, then the draw will now be more pronounced. To straighten out the shot, you start blocking the shot by hanging on or you weaken your grip. An overly weak grip then causes you to flip at it to square it up. By this time the whole swing has fallen apart. You lost your fundamentals.
Assuming your fundamentals were sound in the past, your fix is probably very simple and very slight. Don't go making any sort of major overhauls. Concentrate on the last part of your backswing. Do not let your hands shoot up towards the sky at the very end. You will need to feel your flaw before you can fix it. Swing very slowly and concentrate on the end of your backswing (the part leading up to the transition from back to forward). This is where you've gone wrong.
Once you get your swing back on plane, then your ballstriking will return. When you are on plane you don't have to make any compensations. You just drive through the ball without fear of it turning left (for a right-handed golfer).
One other note… Driver and ball technology has improved in the last few years. You might consider looking into the latest drivers and balls. Your friends can buy an extra ten yards even with their swings. Why not get a little yourself? But first work out the flaw you developed by not playing lately.
Go practice.

How To Get Improved Power In Your Golf Swing!
Posted by admin | Under Power Golf Swing Monday Oct 20, 2008
Would you like to know how to get more power in your golf swing. I think a lot of us would like to hit the ball over 250yds every time we teed off, but as we know its not that easy. There are three main factors that govern your power, get these right and you have every chance of hitting those long drives you have always dreamt of hitting.
Number one is the mechanics of your swing. Number two is your actual fitness in terms of flexibility and body strength, referred to as golf strength. Number three is your actual equipment, although this to a degree is only true if you have numbers one and two right in the first place. Technological advances in equipment over recent years have made a big difference in equipment and how far you are able to hit the ball.
The mechanics of the swing are imperative when you come to hitting the ball straight down the fairway. It is a fact that the more you practice your swing the better it will become. Lack of instruction is probably one of the most common mistakes that amateurs make. It is no good going to the driving range once every 6 to 8 weeks without having any professional instruction and expecting your power and accuracy to improve.
Golf strength describes the fitness level of an individual playing golf as apposed to someone going down the gym and bench pressing enormous weights. Your body needs to be flexible, strong and well balanced to be able to perfect your golf swing.
You will not be able to improve your mechanics until you have improved your body.
You need to improve the mechanics of your golf swing and your golf strength in order to perfect your golf swing.
Last on the list is the equipment itself. Technical advances in golf equipment over the last 15 to 20 years means that the choice of club is more important now than ever. Gone are the days when you played with a wood that actually contained wood in the club head.
A brief description of how to improve your golf swing comes down to these three things. With a combination of these three things, professional tuition and lots of practice you should soon see an improvement in how far you can drive a ball straight down the fairway.
What are some exercises I can do to get more power from my golf swing?
Posted by admin | Under Power Golf Swing Tuesday Oct 14, 2008
There are numerous golf stretch exercises that you can do to improve your game.
Probably the one exercise that can improve your swing and be able to gain distance from it is stretch exercises to loosen up your lower back. This will improve the amount you can turn on your back swing and gain power from it.
Lie on your back with legs extended.
Raise one leg and bend at the knee to 90° in knee and hip.
Cross that leg over extended leg, while opposite shoulder stays on the ground.
Go until slight pull in butt and lower back.
Hold and repeat once more.
Switch legs and do opposite side.
The benefits are:
Allows for a bigger back swing, while your hips remain stable.
Creates more torque between lower body and upper body, which in turn provides more club head speed and increase distance.
Helps reduce strain in your lower back during repeated swings.
allows golfer a more effortless swing and reduces muscular tension, which in turn improves your accuracy.
This one exercise improved my swing and increased my distance.

Conditioning For Golf Produces A Powerful Golf Swing
Posted by admin | Under Power Golf Swing Thursday Apr 24, 2008
Conditioning for golf sounds like an oxymoron doesn’t it? But
let me ask you this. Do you feel stress in your body during or
after a golf swing? I’m referring to physical stress. The
muscles tightening; the lower back stiffening; the joints
aching; or just plain physical fatigue. The reason I ask is to
make you aware that conditioning for golf will help eliminate
all the above.
I’ve written many articles pertaining to the traumatic effect
the golf swing can have on the body. Swinging a 3 foot plus
lever (club) at up to 100 mph in a very dynamic and sometimes
uncomfortable position (golf posture) will abuse your body
quickly if you have not prepared your muscles from both a
strength and flexibility standpoint.
Physical breakdown of the body is a common occurrence for
golfers. Many golfers don’t realize the intense pressure the
golf swing causes, and yet they’ll deal with aches and pains
through their entire golfing career.
It doesn’t have to be that way!
Golf is an athletic movement and you should physically prepare
your body to perform, like any other athlete would for his or
her sport.
Doesn’t that make sense?
I see golfers every day on the range and the golf course who are
physically broken. They have locked up shoulders, inhibiting
their ability to rotate fully; they have no core strength (most
golfers are sporting too many pounds in the middle) to produce
power and distance; poor hamstring flexibility, making it
impossible to maintain golf poster; the upper back muscles are
weak and tight causing the rounded upper back, eliminating any
chance of proper spine angle.
I could go on and on, but I think you’re getting the picture.
I don’t know if golfers are in denial of the importance of
conditioning for golf, or just don’t want to put any effort into
that aspect of the game. But either way, it is inevitable that a
weak and restricted body will have no chance at maximizing
potential. It’s a physical impossibility.
Conditioning for golf should be taken seriously!
When you do a program specific to golf, it can be fun. Boredom
is one of the biggest causes of consistency and results. But if
you knew you were doing something not only for your personal
health, but to benefit your golf game, wouldn’t that motivate
you to stick with it?
We’re not talking about going to a gym for 2 hours with all the
muscle heads. We’re talking about 20-30 minutes a day in your
home. Simple and fun exercises with tubing, handweights and a
stability ball. Your complete golf fitness gym for under $60. No
gym memberships. Just a fun routine in the privacy of your home.
Evaluate where your golf swing and game are currently and ask
yourself this question. “Would I play better if I could move my
body more fluidly and powerfully?” The answer is a resounding
YES! You’ve got to realize this sooner or later. Prepare your
body to perform and the sky is the limit.
Get started right now on your conditioning for golf
